Is this really my hometown? I turn on the television but I’m having a hard time believing my eyes. Mother Nature has dealt us the flood of a lifetime. We all have so many questions.
Where can you turn? How can you help?

From Metro Government: This message was last updated at 6:30 pm, Sunday, May 2.
Interstate 24 has reopened between Briley Parkway and Hickory Hollow Parkway. Over 130 vehicles have been towed off I-24 in that area.
If you have questions or need non-emergency assistance, call the Emergency Operations Center community hotline at (615) 862-8574.
In an emergency, call 911.
- Metro Emergency Management advises everyone to stay off the roads – particularly secondary roads – unless absolutely necessary.
- Nearly 50 streets and highways have been closed, police and fire personnel have made over 600 water rescues, and preserving public health and safety continue to be the top priority.
- A shelter has been set up at Lipscomb University, in the Student Activities Building at 1100 Granny White Pike next to Allen Arena. That shelter has reached capacity. The shelter is serving those who have been forced out of their homes or cannot return to their homes because of the floodwater.
- A second shelter has been set up at the Jewish Community Center, 801 Percy Warner Boulevard near Bellevue. The JCC shelter is also at capacity with approximately 200 people.
- MTA buses are not running. The Metropolitan Transit Authority has suspended all operations due to the flooding.
- A third shelter has been set up at Bellevue Middle School, 655 Colice-Jeanne Road. The shelter has capacity to house 200 people.
- Do not try to drive through standing water – turn around and go back. The heavy rains overnight and this morning can cause flash flooding with little warning, and what appears to be a safe route can turn dangerous in seconds. Obey all signs and barricades.
- The National Weather Service reports record flooding and near or above crest stage levels of all creeks in the Metro area; Davidson County will remain under a flood warning at least into Monday morning.
- The Metro Health Department recommends that anyone who comes in contact with the floodwater wash their hands with clean (tap or purified) water. Skin contact with floodwater does not pose a serious threat by itself, but there is some risk of disease from eating or drinking anything contaminated with floodwater, and open cuts or sores may be irritated or infected.
