We all know that home layout, proximity to amenities, and age of the property can have a big impact on which home a buyer decides to purchase. However, school zones can be a really important factor as well.

A recent report by Realtor.com goes over the importance of school zones for homebuyers, and I just wanted to highlight some things and let you know my thoughts as well.

First of all, timing your listing can be important if you want to sell a home in a great school zone. I find that most sellers want to list their property about three months before the start of the next semester.

One thing to keep in mind is that Davidson County isn’t well-known for its school zones, but we do have some great elementary and middle schools in our area. Ultimately, though, school zones aren’t as important in Davidson County or urban areas.

If you are moving up to a second or third home, school zones will be more important.

If you are buying your first home, you don’t have to bet everything on a school zone. It’s more important to make that first purchase and start building equity.

Usually, your move-up house—which could be your second or third house—is the one where the school zone becomes a more important factor in your decision.

Those are my tips about school zones. If you have any other questions about buying a home or what’s happening in our market, just give me a call or send me an email. I would be happy to help you!
